Southam Saddles © 2014
Our saddle fitting service provides you with an ongoing assessment of your horses saddle taking into consideration you and your horses needs, we are happy to both advise on your existing saddle or if you require a new saddle bring a selection from stock that will be suitable for you to try.
As Society of Master Saddlers Qualified Saddle Fitters we follow a Code of Conduct as set out by our governing body.
Initially we will discuss your requirements over the telephone, we will need you to provide us with as much detail as possible about you and your horse prior to our visit.
Our initial visit will involve a full assessment of your horse both in hand and under saddle, in order to carry this out please make sure the following requirements, where possible, are met:
Please present your horse groomed and ready to be ridden.
Make sure that the main rider of the horse is present as a saddle needs to be suitable for both horse and rider.
A flat level surface is available to assess your horse stood up in hand and in walk and trot.
A safe level area to ride, ideally a riding arena.
All riders must wear a riding hat that meets with current British standards.
Show jumps in order to assess a saddles performance over a fence if necessary.
Your normal girth, stirrup leathers and saddle pads so these can be discussed and checked for suitability with a new or existing saddle.
Once the assessment has been carried out our findings will be discussed with you as to what is required so that you and your horses needs are fully met.
The fit and maintenance of your horses saddle should be seen as an ongoing commitment to your horses well being just as his shoeing, dental care and annual vaccinations are. To this end we believe we should see our clients at least once or twice a year to check a saddles fit and more regularly if the horse is likely to change shape due to fitness levels, seasonal weight fluctuations and age. This is why we see our job as saddle fitters as a long term commitment to you and your horse and want to build relationships with our clients based on trust and honesty as we very much take the long view on things.
To discuss your saddles fitting needs or book an appointment please call 07780 462258 or email email@example.com
Firstly you need to allow time, as a general rule a saddle fitting for a new saddle will take 1 -
Your saddle fitter will take a brief history of you and your horse as well as making an assessment of your horse's conformation and suitability for fitting.
When we are happy to proceed with the fitting we will try on a selection of saddles and identify those suitable to girth up and ride in, if there are 5 saddles that suit no problem you can try them all.
Once we have assessed the saddle ridden preferably in walk, trot, canter and over a jump if necessary we will discuss the advantages and benefits of each saddle, advise you if any further alteration would be required to improve the fit further and we will give our professional opinion on what we believe suits you and your horse the best so you can make the most informed choice.
If you decide to go ahead and buy or order a new saddle your fitter will make any relevant recommendations and discuss your aftercare plan, advising when your saddle should next be checked/reviewed.
As a rough guide we recommend your saddle is checked annually but for those horses who are young or on a fitness plan then a review is sometimes required within 3 -
We also stock a selection of saddle accessories, if would like us to bring over any numnahs, leathers, irons or girths to match, no problem just let us know alternatively if you prefer to use certain pads under your saddle please have these available so we can take these into consideration at your saddle fitting appointment.
We are happy to work with other equestrian professionals so it's no problem if you would like to have your instructor/trainer or physiotherapist present, it all helps you make the best choice.
